Why does the app ask for my location?
Every event is computed as seen from your coordinates: its altitude above your horizon, its time, the Moon's effect on it. Instead of granting access you can pick a site on the map in Settings and save it by name, or save several and switch between them.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Events, Moon, planets, eclipses and crescent visibility are computed locally. The network is used only to fetch comet elements from JPL and the forecast from Open-Meteo; when offline, the last cached copy is shown with its age.
What does the score out of 100 mean?
An estimate of how photographable the event is from your sky: altitude, moonlight that night, distance from twilight, weather, and your sky's darkness on the Bortle scale. The "score factors" card on each event page breaks every factor down, and the full formulas are available by email on request.
An event listed elsewhere does not appear for me
Usually because it is not photographable from your site: below the horizon, in daylight, or drowned by moonlight. Other sites list events for the whole Earth; the app filters them for your place. Settings has a "show difficult" switch that reveals events below the threshold too.
The widget does not update
iOS refreshes widgets on its own schedule, normally within an hour. Opening the app refreshes it immediately. The widget also needs a site to be set in the app first.
How do I set my sky darkness?
In Settings → Location, choose the Bortle class for your site (1 darkest, 9 inner city). The app estimates it from the kind of place; changing it recomputes the scores.
I found a computation error
Email us the event, date, location and what you expected. Computations follow published algorithms and are compared automatically between iPhone and Android, so any discrepancy is news we want.
