Astro-Photographer computes every event from your coordinates, scores it out of 100 for how photographable it is from your sky, and ranks opportunities by score rather than date. Moon, planets, eclipses, the new crescent, comets, deep sky, and weather by the hour.

What the app does

Six layers of information, deliberately separated: what is computed exactly, and what is fetched from the network as an estimate.

A score out of 100

Target altitude, moonlight that night, distance from twilight, weather, and your sky's darkness on the Bortle scale. A card explains every factor.

Moon and crescent

Phases to the minute, the new Moon that opens the deep-sky window, and Hijri crescent visibility: when it can be seen from your site, at what altitude and age.

Eclipses at your location

Not from a 'greatest eclipse' table but computed for your coordinates: magnitude, type and contact times as you will see them.

Planets and conjunctions

Oppositions, greatest elongations, close conjunctions with the Moon and each other, and meteor showers with peak and Moon interference.

Live comets

From the JPL Small-Body Database with predicted brightness, altitude and solar distance, refreshed daily and shown explicitly as estimates.

Deep sky

Over a hundred galaxies, nebulae and clusters with an image, angular size and the best night to shoot each from your site.

Weather by the hour

One bar per hour from 20:00 to 04:00 with three cloud layers, a dew warning for your lens, wind, and the longest clear run each night.

Frequently asked

Why does the app ask for my location?

Every event is computed as seen from your coordinates: its altitude above your horizon, its time, the Moon's effect on it. Instead of granting access you can pick a site on the map in Settings and save it by name.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Events, Moon, planets and eclipses are computed locally. The network is used only to fetch comet elements from JPL and the forecast from Open-Meteo; when offline, the last cached copy is shown with its age.

An event listed elsewhere does not appear for me

Usually because it is not photographable from your site: below the horizon, in daylight, or drowned by moonlight. Other sites list events for the whole Earth; the app filters them for your place.

Where do the computations come from?

Jean Meeus's 'Astronomical Algorithms' for Sun and Moon positions and JPL orbital elements for the planets. Phases and eclipses are derived from the same positions, not from precomputed tables.

Is the app paid?

No. Free, with no in-app purchases or subscription in this release.
